Most people will say it's more effort than it's worth.
Epiphone have released a LP with a floyd already installed, buying that wouldn't be a great deal more than putting one on an existing LP.

I would dig having a bar on my LP, but the last floyd rose I saw n ebay that fits LP wet for over $300, and that was just for the bridge part, plus I doubt I'd ever mount the locking nut on my LP, so I also think it's a wiser choice to go for the epi that has it designed in.

Also probably cheaper still is the Agile LP copy with tremolo, which is a somewhat different beast because it has a bigsby but another option to consider.

Be careful, the purists will be calling for your head!

Installing a Floyd on a LP would be pricey and a pain in the ass. I'm also one of those sick bastards who thought it would be nice to have a LP with one though, so I took a chance on one of these when I saw it on Ebay:

http://www.fernandes.co.jp/burny/rlc/rlc65s_sw_index.html

http://www.fernandes.co.jp/burny/rlc/rlc65s_blk_index.html

I found a white one for $900 and totally fell in love with it. I actually sold my Gibson LP Custom and bought a black Burny I found for $825 that has EMG 89's and an upgraded trem bar, I couldn't be happier with both of them. Both are absolutely flawless, the build-quality and playability are outstanding. They show up on Ebay every now and then but you can also order them from Orangeguitar.com for about $870 (as I recall) including shipping to the US:

http://orangeguitar.com/forsale/burnyforsale.htm

Note, the prices listed are in Singapore dollars. Anyway, I think they're outstanding guitars, much better than the Epi's IMO. The stock bridge PU is very good (sounds similar to a JB) and the Sustainer is pretty neat too. The Floyd is licensed but of excellent quality, very similar in design to an Original Floyd.

Here are my babies:

Go and buy a Stetsbar surface mount (non destructive) tremelo unit. Expensive tho, but brilliantly engineered. Won't give you the extremes of up and down movement that a floyd would give you..

Guitars ~ Fender Highway Strat (upgraded model), Fender Classic 60s Strat, 2 Seymour Duncan powered Squire Strats, Fender Toronado GT, Gretsch Pro Jet, Yamaha RGX A2 & 2 Pacifica 112, Seymour Duncan/DiMarzio powered Model 3 h/s/s Charvel. Semour Duncan/Trev Wilkinson powered Vintage VS6 SG, Vintage V100MRPGM "Lemon Drop" (relic'd Peter Green/Gary Moore Les Paul tribute), PRS SE Maple Soapbar II, Ibanez SA260FM and Seymour Duncan powered Squire 51.

Amps ~ Fender Blues Junior modded with Celestion Vintage 30 driver, Ashdown Peacemaker 40watt tube combo, Grainger Valve Junior 5watt & Hughes Kettner Edition Blue 60 watt combo.

Effects (highlights only) ~ Blackstar valve Boost, TC Electronics 'Vintage Overdrive', Vox Cooltron 'Snake Charmer' tube compressor, Vox Cooltron Brit Boost, Boss DM2 analogue delay, Digitech 'Crossroads' Clapton signature pedal, Boss Dyna Drive, Boss Fender Deluxe Reverb amp modeller, Boss Fender Bassman modeller and (too) many more.

BOSS DM2 pedal for sale - immaculate, boxed, with manual, owned from new. Message me before it goes on Ebay - SOLD..

don't do it - the loss of tone from the routing is enormous, and you effectively kill the resale value as you go - get an epi or the other thing.
