Anyone know what Al used for the Elegant Gypsy album? I know Les Pauls, Strats and Marshalls, but nothing more.

What is the phaser he uses on Elegant Gypsy Suite?

I've been wondering this for a while. Sorry I can't help, but Elegant Gypsy sure is an incredible album.

Ah it's ok, maybe this bump will help find some Di Meola fans.

It took about a year for a reply, but here you go. On his old 70's albums like elegant gypsy and casino, Al used Les Pauls - a vintage Standard from 1959, and various Les Paul Customs, all with Dimarzio super distortion pickups installed. His amp was a 50 watt Marshall non-master volume plexi head. He plugged into the top left input (the more trebley one) and set the bass to 10, mids to 10, treble to 1 and volume to 10. He used a Marshall cab, probably with Celestion greenbacks. I think he used a Coloursound fuzz pedal to boost the amp into more distortion, but I'm not positive about this. The phaser he used was the Mutron II phaser. This info. came from a Japanese magazine all about Di Meola. They actually had pictures of his amp knobs and everything! Man what a monster tone! One of the best rock-fusion tones of all time!

My Rig:
Orville Les Paul Standard w/ Fralin humbuckers
=> Digitech whammy 4, Budda wah, Ernie-ball volume, Sweetsound Mojo Vibe, DOD 201 phasor, Boss DD-20, EH LPB-1 boost (to go to 11!)
=> 1979 50 Watt Marshall JMP master-volume head
=> Dr Z Airbrake
=> Marshall cab w/ G12H30's
